Congenital glaucoma is abnormally high intraocular pressure which results due to development anomaly of angle of anterior chamber. It has autosomal recessive inheritance. It is bilateral and asymmetric.
Symptoms of congenital glaucoma-
1. Photophobia- that is intolerance of light by eyes.
2. Blepharospasm.
3. Watering from eyes.
4. Itching in eyes.
5. Irritation of corneal nerves.
6. Elevated intraocular pressure.
7. Corneal oedema.
8. Corneal enlargement.
9. Tears and breaks in Descemet’s membrane.
10. Thin and blue sclera.
11. Axial myopia.
Investigation-
1. Intraocular pressure measurement.
2. Corneal diameter measurement.
3. Opthalmoscopy.
4. Gonioscopic examination of anterior chamber angle.
Treatment-
1. Goniotomy.
2. Trabeculotomy.
3. Try to lower intraocular pressure by use of medicines.
