Alcohol withdrawal syndrome is a group of symptoms which occur in a chronic alcoholic person on reduction or stoppage of further alcohol intake.
Symptoms-
1. There is sudden occurrence of central nervous system excitation.
2. Symptoms start appearing six to forty eight hours after the reduction of alcohol intake and may last for two to seven days.
3. Decreased sleep, headache, and tachycardia.
4. Tremors, anxiety, acute abdomen.
5. Palpitations, increased blood pressure.
6. Loss of appetite.
7. Generalized tonic clonic convulsions occur within forty eight hours after the last drink.
8. Hallucinations occur within 12 to 24 hours of abstinence from alcohol and get cured itself with in 24 to 48 hours of symptoms.
9. Delirium tremors, dehydration, fever.
10. Hypokalaemia, hypomagnesaemia and hypophosphataemia.
