It always happen in every family that children become victim of vomiting episodes. Do you know what causes vomiting in children? Vomiting in children happens out of many reasons. What are these 9 alarming vomiting signs in children? 

Some of them are related to colour of vomiting. Some of them are related to consistency of vomit. Some of them are related to body conditions. Lets discuss each of these signs one by one.

9 Alarming Signs that should not be Ignored in case of Vomiting of Children 


If you see any of these alarming signs in case of vomiting of children, you should consult doctor immediately. There are-

1) Lethargy-

If your child seems extremely lethargic even after medicinal aid, in case of vomiting, go to doctor without further delay.

2) Severe stomach tenderness with severe pain-

If on abdominal examination, if you find that extreme stomach tenderness along with vomiting, go to doctor. If abdomen is too much distended with extreme discomfort in child who is vomiting consistently, consult doctor.

3) Consistent vomiting for more than 1 day-

Vomiting from minor causes get easily treated in a day. But, if your child is consistently vomiting for more than 1 day, then without any further delay, take your child to doctor.

4) Severe dehydration-

Dehydration occurs with every vomit. If your child is vomiting in excess, then with every vomit he is losing hydration level. With consistent vomiting child is moving towards severe dehydration. That need to be corrected under doctor supervision. Therefore, without any further delay take your child to doctor for further treatment.

5) Vomiting contain blood or bile-

If your child vomit blood or bile in his vomit, then that is thing to worry. That requires a list of lab investigations need to be done advised by doctor. Based on cause found out of those lab investigation for coming of blood or bile in vomit, doctor will start treatment. Treatment requires correction of cause of blood or bile coming in vomit.

6) Stop urinating-

If your child stop urinating because of consistent vomiting, then without any further delay take your child to doctor for treatment of cause.

Dietary advice in case of vomiting of children-

When your child is suffering from vomiting episodes, just take care of his diet. He should not eat anything that aggravates his vomiting.

1) Give light food to eat-

He should be given that diet which is easily digestible. Give curd  when vomiting episodes have subsided. Khichdi is easily digestible.

2) Give small quantity to eat-

Do not give excess quantity of food to eat. Because digestive system of child is not strong enough to digest large meal, when child is suffering from vomiting episodes.

3) Hydration with ORS-

During vomiting, along with water there occurs loss of vital  electrolytes from body of child. That causes dehydration in body which needs to be covered by giving child ORS (Oral Rehydration solution) to drink. It will hydrate his body and store electrolytes in body.

4) Avoid sugary cold drinks-

Avoid giving highly sugary drinks to child. It will worsen his condition.
