This article as the title of article suggest is continuation of previous article titled "Types of Muscular Tissue - Part 1". Previous article was ended with second type of muscular tissue, information on third type of muscular tissue that is smooth muscular tissue you will get over here in this article. Other two types of muscular tissue are given in previous series of this article that is in article titled "Types of Muscular Tissue - Part1."

Smooth muscular tissue is third type of muscular tissue which is found in lumen of blood vessels, airways of respiratory tract, alimentary tract of gastro-intestinal system and lumen of urinary tract and internal layer of urinary bladder is formed of smooth muscle cell. Smooth muscle cell also known as smooth muscular fiber is tapered at its both ends and thick in center of fiber. Nucleus of smooth muscular fiber is found in center of cell.

One important but differentiating feature of smooth muscle cell is that it contains no striations which are found in cells of other two types of muscular tissue, one is skeletal muscular tissue and other is cardiac muscular tissue. Smooth muscle cell is flat at its surface whereas skeletal muscular fiber is cylindrical and cardiac muscular fiber is branched in shape.

Due to its flat surface it is named so as smooth muscle cell. Smooth surface of smooth muscular fiber in smooth muscular tissue help blood vessels, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract and internal muscular layer of urinary bladder and respiratory tract in easy passage of contents flowing through them.

And last, but very important feature of smooth muscle cell in which it is similar to cardiac muscular fiber is its involuntary nature that is its functioning is controlled by autonomic nervous system that is it does not act on will of person.

So this was all about smooth muscular tissue which is one of the type of muscular tissue but do you know about other two types of muscular tissue?
