Types of Muscular Tissue - Part1

Our body is made up of different tissues. One of them is muscular tissue which serves important functions and forms the important part of body. Muscular tissue is one of types of different types of tissues found in body which serves very important functions like locomotor movements of skeleton part of body, protecting skeleton of body from various external injuries and heat production by breaking down ATP molecule needed for functioning of muscles which also help in maintaining temperature of body.

So, this was a brief introduction about muscular tissue, but do you know what different types of muscular tissue are there in human body? The different types of muscular tissue which are found in human body are as follow-

1.      Skeletal muscular tissue.
2.      Cardiac muscular tissue.
3.      Smooth muscular tissue.

1.      Skeletal muscular tissue-

Skeletal muscular tissue is one of type of muscular tissue. Skeletal muscular tissue is formed of elongated cell also known as skeletal muscular fiber. Skeletal muscular cell is also termed skeletal muscular fiber because they are elongated and of thickness of a fiber.

Skeletal muscular fiber is cylindrical in shape, contains two or more nuclei at periphery of cell and it also contains striations. Skeletal muscular fibers are arranged parallel to each other in muscular tissue. Skeletal muscular tissue works on voluntary basis.

Skeletal muscular tissue is attached to bones by tendons and helps in movement of skeleton by providing force needed for movement of joints and bones. Now, this was about skeletal muscular tissue, next type of muscular tissue is cardiac muscular tissue.

2.      Cardiac muscular tissue-

Cardiac muscular tissue is one of the types of muscular tissue. Cardiac muscular tissue is found in walls of heart. Cardiac muscular tissue is formed by cardiac muscle cell also known as cardiac muscular fiber is branched in structure and contains only one nucleus in its center. Maximum nuclei a cardiac muscular fiber can contain are two but that is very rare.

Cardiac muscular fiber is involuntary in nature that is it is not controlled by will and works automatically twenty four hours and its function is controlled by SA node and brain. Cardiac muscular fiber also contains striations just like skeletal muscular fiber, it is the only one quality of cardiac muscular fiber in which it is similar to skeletal muscular fiber, otherwise, in terms of working procedure and number of nuclei, it is different from skeletal muscular fiber. Very important thing which differentiates it from skeletal muscular fiber and smooth muscular fiber is ends of cardiac muscular fiber. Its ends contain a thickening called intercalated discs at both ends of cells.

3.      Smooth muscular tissue-

What is Smooth muscular tissue, what is its structure, its functions everything will be continued in next article 'Types of Muscular Tissue- Part 2'.
