Easy Steps to Prevent Computer Vision Syndrome



In previous articles on Health Blog, we have discussed what are warning signs of computer vision syndrome in article titled, “Warning Signs of Computer Vision Syndrome” and who are more prone to computer vision syndrome in article titled, “People who are worse affected by computer vision syndrome.” Today, we will discuss how can we prevent computer vision syndrome?

What preventive measures are need of today to be taken to prevent computer vision syndrome? What preventive measures one should take to prevent computer vision syndrome? Steps which one need to follow on daily basis, preventive measures which one need to take on daily basis to prevent computer vision syndrome, to reduce computer vision syndrome in a person to a great extent are-

1.      First step, which one need to take while working on computer to prevent suffering from computer vision syndrome is, to blink your eyes at regular intervals so that eyes get proper dosage of tear fluid and cornea of your eyes get hydrated adequately. Normal human eyes blink at a rate of 10-15 times per minute but while working on computer people usually blink very less, their blinking rate get reduced to 2 to 3 times per minute. That is, the reason why you need to blink your eyes frequently.

2.      Second step, that one need to take while working on computer to avoid computer vision syndrome, to reduce risk of computer vision syndrome, is to sit in correct posture. People usually tend to sit in hunched slumping or slouching position which is also one of the causes of computer vision syndrome. Therefore, sit straight and avoid sitting in hunched, slumping or slouching position to avoid computer vision syndrome.


3.      Third thing, which one need to take is to use right kind of computer technology while working on computer, as using wrong kind of technology can also predispose to computer vision syndrome. Now, what things comes under right kind of computer technology? Things which come under right kind of computer technology are-

a)      Number one, use right kind computer monitors under which comes flicker free monitors, which reduces glare of light which most conventional LED monitors with flickering effect produce on eyes. Flickering free monitors not only reduces glare of light but also reduces strain which glare produced by flickering effect creating most conventional LED monitors put on your eyes. So, try to use as much as possible computers with flicker-free monitor option.
 
b)      Also use computer monitors which also contain automatic eye protect sensor, which can adjust brightness automatically for optimized clarity, so that it does not produce much strain on your eyes.

c)      Anti glare glasses should be used to reduce strain put on your eyes, which too much glare of light has produced on computer screen.


4.      Fourth step, which one need to take while working on computer is to take frequent breaks after every hour while working on computer. While working on computer for very long hours to avoid eye fatigue, general body fatigue which constantly working on computer for long hours produces, try to have intermittent breaks in between every hour to reduce risk of suffering from computer vision syndrome.

5.      Fifth one, but very important thing, position your monitor and keyboard in right position relative to your body height. Screen should not be either at very low level or not at very high level, it should be on adequate level relative to your body, so that you do not have to sit in slouched, slumping or hunched positions again and again. It should be placed such that you can relax-fully sit in straight position on chair while working on computer.

6.      Adequate illumination of light should be there while working on computer as less illumination in room, working in low light also puts too much strain on your eyes and causes various eye problems along with causing computer vision syndrome.

7.      Seventh thing, very important thing- Although, proper illumination should be there in room while working on computer but computer and keyboard should not be placed that way which produces lot of glare on screen of computer. That means, computer, laptop or tablet or mobile screen should be placed in such a way that light sources in room does not produce lot of glare on their screens. And, if it is still occurring, then turn shift your computer or your laptop or tablet or mobile to other direction where less glare is produced on their screens.

8.      Also, eighth thing, timely visit your eye specialist or eye doctor, so that if any eye problem arises, it can be sorted with in time range. So, that's all about few things which you need to take care, if you do not want to be victim suffering from computer vision syndrome.
