Why Menstruation occurs in Female every Month?

Menstruation is such a part of female’s life, which comes every month. A woman is tired of it because of pain associated with it. But in actual, it is thing that make a woman fertile and young.

How it keeps a woman young and fertile? It is able to do this because of hormones released during  menstrual cycle .

Cause of menstruation-
Surge of hormones is cause of menstruation. But question is, which hormone? Hormone named oestrogen is responsible. Surge of this hormone increases during menstrual cycle. It increases after stoppage of menstruation. This increase is responsible for ovulation during menstruation. Decrease in surge of this hormone is responsible for bleeding that is menstruation during menstrual cycle.

Types of menstrual problems-

  • Amenorrhoea- It is that problem of menstruation in which no menstruation occurs.
  • Hypomenorrhoea- It is that problem of menstruation in which amount of menstrual fluid shed is scanty and duration of menstruation is also less.
  • Hypomenorrhoea- It is that problem of menstruation in which duration of menstruation is more and also amount of menstrual fluid is more.
  • Metrorrhagia- It is that problem of menstruation in which bleeding in form of spotting occurs between periods.
  • Dysmenorrhoea- In this too much pain occurs, on starting day of menstruation.


Components of menstrual fluid-
Menstrual fluid mainly consists of first of blood. Next, it consists of endometrial tissue that is shed from uterine lining. Next component which makes part of menstrual fluid is vaginal secretions and cervical mucosa.

Nutrients lost in menstrual fluid-
Yes, there are some nutrients that are lost in menstrual fluid. Which nutrients are they? Well, they are-

  • Sodium
  • Iron
  • Calcium
  • Phosphate
  • Water
  • Electrolytes
  • Proteins

These nutrients can be supplemented to body through diet. No need to worry, you can have them again in your body through diet.

Benefits of Menstrual cycle-
Menstruation in which nutrients are lost; how menstrual cycle can be beneficial? But it is true that menstrual cycle is beneficial. This is because of oestrogen hormone released after menstruation. This hormone is responsible for keeping you young, healthy and make endometrium of your uterus enabled for becoming pregnant.

  • Those who do not have this menstruation do not have this hormone. Not having this hormone, make you look old, prone to diseases and infertile for pregnancy.


Ways to reduce menstrual pain-
Menstrual pain reduce as a female grows into adult and after marriage and childbirth. But even after this, if pain occurs, then follow the following regimen-

1) Eat right diet to supplement nutrients lost in menstrual fluid which should contain-

  • Iron from green vegetables
  • Calcium, proteins from milk
  • Drink juice to supplement water and electrolytes.


2) Keep hygiene of genital area from which menstruation occurs. It can be done through regular bathing and special intimate washes made for that area.

3) Regular morning walk everyday, builds up threshold to reduce pain effects on your body.
