Cervical pain very common, these days. Reason behind it, being change to more of sitting lifestyle than exercise. All day in sitting posture, whether at work, in study especially neck bend forward causes cervical pain. But, there are other causes of cervical pain. To reduce cervical pain, sit in upright posture. Causes of Cervical pain-

There are other causes of cervical pain, not just wrong sitting posture. They are-
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Neck injury
  • Neck strain 
  • Infection 
  • Persistent wrong position during sitting
  • Wrong position during sleep

10 Health Tips to Reduce Cervical Pain-


1) Try pillow with more height-

Cervical pain caused from wrong sitting posture can be reduced by using pillow with more height. It corrects neck posture, which was altered in day by sitting, in wrong posture. There are cervical pain pillow available in market. They keep the cervical spine of neck in right curve during sleep.

2) Sleep on your back-

Sleep on your back not side ways. That will correct cervical spine curve, which reduces pain. In sideways sleeping, wrong neck posture is not corrected, which was causing pain.

3) Adjust screen of your laptop with straight sitting position-

Laptop screen position should be adjusted, which cause no problem, while sitting in upright posture. Laptop screen should be adjusted such that, you don’t have to bend to read laptop screen.

4) Exercise-

Exercise also correct wrong neck posture. It also treats stiffness of muscles that occurs in cervical pain.

5) Nourish neck discs by drinking water every 2 hours-

Main component of intervertebral discs of cervical spine is water. When you are dehydrated, then these discs are also dehydrated. Dehydrated discs cause rubbing of vertebrae with each other causing pain and altering spine curve. Therefore, drink water often every 2 hours, to keep intervertebral discs of neck in shape.

6) Avoid carrying heavy weight-

Lifting heavy weight put strain on neck muscles, causing neck pain.

7) Avoid carrying weight on one shoulder-

Carrying heavy weight on one shoulder, not only cause shoulder pain. But, it also cause neck pain too, by alternating spinal curve.

8) Physiotherapy-

Physiotherapy loosen tighten, stiff muscles that occurs in cervical pain. It also correct spinal curve, causing cervical pain.

9) Headrest in office chair-

Headrest should be there in your office chair as well as home chair and car seat. So that if you want to rest on chair, head rest keep cervical spine posture in shape. That prevents cervical spine pain that occurs in chairs without headrest.

10) Increase magnesium intake-

Magnesium deficiency has been found with muscular pain. To relive stiffness of neck muscles that occurs in neck pain, consume Magnesium rich food sources. For example, whole grains, avocado, pistachio.
