Health benefits of watermelon –                                                                                    Watermelon is fruit of summer season. It has very refreshing and cooling effect. Along with that, it has lot of health benefits. Those health benefits are –

  • Hydrates the body – Watermelon contains good amount of water, which helps in hydrating the body. That prevents, dehydration caused in summer due to major loss of water and minerals in excessive perspiration.
  • Gives relief from heat of summer season, cools down the body – In summer season, outside as well inside of home, temperature is high. That, high temperature causes excessive perspiration. Sometimes, working in that high temperature can cause fever. Watermelon helps in cooling down body temperature, by supplying good amount of hydration to body.
  • Boost immunity – Watermelon contains good amount of Vitamin C, which boosts body immunity. It strengthens your immune system. That helps in fighting, with diseases and preventing damage caused to your body from these diseases.
  • Prevents degenerative disorders – Watermelon also contains good amount of antioxidants. Theses antioxidants, flush out free radicals from body. Free radicals, if accumulates in body in excess causes diseases.
  • Helps in maintaining good eyesight – Vitamin A helps in maintaining good eyesight. It is present in good amount in watermelon.

  • Prevents dry skin – If you maintain proper hydration of your skin, then dry skin problem can be prevented to great extent. Water is present in good amount in watermelon. That helps in hydrating your skin to great extent.

Watermelon has lot of health benefits, but only if eaten in right amount and right way. What is right amount to eat it? You can eat around 1 cup of watermelon or 1 slice of watermelon, weighing around 300 grams. Do not eat more than this amount, that will cause harms.

Watermelon, if eaten in wrong way, then it can also cause harms. What is right way to eat it? The right way to include watermelon, include following steps-

  • Always eat fresh and ripe watermelon – Market is flooded with unripe and old watermelon, as well as fresh and ripe watermelon. Choose the fresh and ripe variety. In fresh and ripe variety nutrients are properly developed and in maximum amount. Whereas, in non-fresh and, in unripe variety nutrients are not properly developed.
  • Eat watermelon immediately, after cutting – When you cut watermelon, it nutrients start reducing in amount, with passage of time, especially vitamin C. Therefore, to have maximum nutrients from it, eat it immediately after cutting. Chances of microbial infection also increases, if watermelon remain cut for very long hours.
  • Eat in right season – Right season to eat watermelon is summer season. Do not eat non-seasonal watermelon. In non-seasonal watermelon, nutrients are not properly developed.
  • Eat at right time of day – Eat watermelon either 2 hours before lunch or 2 hours after lunch. But, do not eat in evening or night. At that time, it is not digested properly.
  • Buy watermelon of right size, for eating – Do not buy very small size watermelon. In that nutrients are not properly developed. Do not buy over big size watermelon. In that chances of chemical injections given to watermelon are more. Buy only medium size watermelon.

  • Gas in abdomen – Excess intake of fiber can cause gas in abdomen. Watermelon contains fiber in good amount. If you take watermelon in excess amount thrice a day, then it can cause gas in abdomen.
  • Pain in abdomen – Excess intake of fiber in excess amount can cause gas in abdomen.
  • Diarrhea – Watermelon contains fiber in good amount. Eating fiber in excess amount on daily basis, thrice a day, can cause loose motions. If you already suffer from diarrhea, then it can increase your frequency of stools.
  • Worsen kidney problem
