Cirrhosis



Cirrhosis is degenerative disease of liver in which there occurs wide spread necrosis of liver cells and extensive fibrosis of liver tissue.
 
Symptoms-

1.      Regenerative, nodular hyperplasia of the remaining normal liver cells which are not affected by widespread necrosis and extensive fibrosis of liver cells and liver tissue occur in this disease.

2.      Portal hypertension, widespread necrosis of liver cells and extensive fibrosis of liver which damage the hepatic vasculature which obstructs the blood flow.

3.      Ascites and hepatic encephalopathy.

4.      Jaundice, oedema and splenomegaly.

5.      Low grade fever, tiredness and weight loss is there.

6.      Loss of appetite is there.

7.      Nausea and vomiting with upper abdominal pain.

8.      Flatulent abdomen.

9.      Ascites.

10.  Gastrointestinal haemorrhage.

11.  Coagulopathy.
 

Investigations-

1.      Haemogram test.

2.      WBC test.

3.      Liver function tests.

4.      Prothrombin time test.

5.      Blood test.

6.      Ultrasound of abdomen.

7.      Liver biopsy test.

8.      Ascitic fluid test.

9.      Barium swallow test.
