When there occurs excess fluid accumulation within the peritoneal cavity, then this state or condition of peritoneal cavity is known as ascites.
Ascites produces various signs and symptoms in body which are as follow-
1. It produces distention of abdomen, that is, it causes flatulent abdomen.
2. It also causes difficulty in breathing and heart burns are also felt in chest region.
3. Digestion of food is impaired and is not proper and hence indigestion is there.
4. Flat or everted umbilicus.
5. Hypoproteinaemia is there.
6. Oedema.
7. Distended abdominal veins radiating out from umbilicus are there.
