Presbyopia


Presbyopia is physiological insufficiency of accommodation leading to a progressive fall in near vision.

Causes-

1. Senile changes in lens.

2. Elasticity of lens capsule gets decreased.
3. Size and hardness of lens gets increased gradually.
4. Ciliary muscle power gets decreased with age.
5. Hypermetropia.
6. Chronic simple glaucoma.


Symptoms-

1. Difficulty in reading words written in small prints.
2. Difficulty in putting thread in a needle.
3. Asthenopia after reading or doing near work.


Treatment-

1. Convex glasses for near work.
2. Presbyopic spectacles.
