Types-
1. Primary hypersplenism.

1. Primary hypersplenism- In it underlying disease cannot be identified to account for the exaggerated splenic function.
Ā· Majority of patients are females.
Ā· Fever, frequent and recurring infections and oral ulcerations with neutropenia.
Ā· Petechiae and ecchymoses with thrombocytopenia.
Ā· Pallor.
Ā· Bone marrow reveals panacellular hyperplasia.
2. Secondary hypersplenism- In it underlying disease is identified. It includes a number of diseases sharing the common feature of splenomegaly. The mechanism producing splenic enlargement are-
Ā· Work hypertrophy from immune response. Work hypertrophy from red cell destruction, for example, spherocytosis.
Ā· Venous congestion.
Ā· Myeloproliferation.
Ā· Infiltration.
Ā· Neoplastic proliferation.
