It is deformity in which the great toe is deviated laterally at the metatarsophalangeal joint.
Causes-
1. Congenital-
In congenital hallux valgus, the first metatarsal bone is adducted. This is often a familial condition.
2. Constant wearing of pointed shoes with high heel. But this is seen only in middle aged women who have continually used this type of shoe from teen ages.
Symptoms-
1. Hallux valgus is often bilateral.
2. It is mostly seen in middle aged women. If it occurs in adolescents, it is mostly congenital and a strong familial tendency is noticed.
3. It is usually painless.
Treatment-
1. Shoe should be wide with front part soft should be worn.
2. Foot exercises.
3. Physiotherapy.
4. Surgery.
