Grapes is such a fruit, which is almost loved by everybody, due to its unique taste. But, along with that, what health benefits grapes have? What is right amount to eat them? What harms or sideeffects they cause, if you eat them in excess amount? Let’s discuss all of that in today’s article.

Grapes, if eaten in right amount and right way, then it has lot of health benefits. But, if grapes are eaten in excess amount and wrong way, then it causes harms (sideeffects) too. First, we will discuss, what health benefits it has? Here comes, those health benefits-

Health benefits of grapes –

Grapes contain a lot of health nutrients. Based on that, they have following health benefits –

  • Prevent anaemia – Grapes contain iron in good amount along with folic acid combination, which helps in preventing iron deficiency anameia.
  • Prevents constipation – through fiber present in it. Fiber present in grapes plays a role of roughage, which helps in easy passage of stool, preventing constipation. Fiber also helps in easy digestion of food too.
  • Boost immunity – through antioxidants and vitamin C present in it
  • Prevent leg cramps – Deficiency of magnesium in body causes leg cramps. Grapes contain magnesium in good amount. 
  • Prevent cancer – through reserrverrtol present in it. Reserrverrtol has cancer preventing properties. But, pregnant women should not eat grapes in excess amount. Grapes when taken in less amount, then this reserrverrtol present in grapes prevents cancer. But, when grapes are eaten in excess amount, then this reserrverrtol can cause miscarriage during pregnancy. 
  • Maintains healthy blood pressure – through potassium present in it.
  • Helps in formation and strengthening of bones – by supplying calcium in good amount. 
  • Maintains eyesight – due to vitamin A present in it.
  • Prevent degenerative diseases – through vitamin B present in it. Vitamin B helps in preventing degenerative diseases in body. 
  • Supplies enegry to do work - It gives energy boost from carbohydrates present in it. Carbohydrates when get metabolised in body, they produce energy. 
  • Maintains good skin health – by supplying vitamin E present in it. Vitamin E helps in maintaining good skin health. 
  • Hydrates the body – through water content present in it. Grapes are very good and refereshing fruit for summer, as it supplying good amount water and nutrients present in them.

Right amount of grapes to eat –

No doubt, grapes has lot of health benefits, but, only when eaten in right amount and right way. If you eat them in excess amount, then it has harms too. So, what is right amount to eat of grapes? 

You can safely eat around 1 small bowel of grapes, containing around 10 to 20 grapes. 

If you eat more than this amount, then grapes cause side effects too.

Harms (Side effects) of grapes –

When you eat grapes in excess amount, thrice a day, on daily basis, then it cause harms too. What harms, grapes cause? Grapes cause following harms, when eaten in excess amount -

  • Diabetes – In diabetes blood sugar level in your body always remain high. Grapes contain sugar. When you eat grapes in excess amount, thrice a day, on daily basis, then it will raise your blood sugar level. 
  • Weight gain – Grapes also contain some amount of calories. Eating grapes in excess amount on daily basis can cause intake of calories in excess. Excess calories intake on daily basis cause weight gain. 
  • Worsen chronic kidney disease symptoms – Grapes contain potassium in good amount. Eating grapes in excess amount causes intake of excess potassium in body. In chronic kidney disease, normal functioning of kidney is disturbed. Due to that kidneys are not able to handle excess potassium supply. That ultimately further cause worsening of chronic kidney disease symptoms. 
  • Causes GERD – Grapes when eaten in excess amount, irritate stomach lining. That causes production of excess acid in stomach. That further causes loosening of esophageal sphincter. That causes reflux of acid in oesophagus from stomach, resulting in GERD. Therefore, do not eat grapes in excess amount to avoid GERD symptoms. 
  • Interferes with action of blood thinner medicines 💊 – Vitamin K present in grapes interferes with action of blood thinner medicines 💊. 
  • Pain in abdomen, gas in abdomen – Eating grapes in excess amount thrice a day, on daily basis, causes intake of fiber in excess amount. Excess fiber intake in excess amount causes pain or gas in abdomen .
