Dry eye syndrome is a diseased condition of eye which was earlier found only in women and men of older age group and in those people who suffer from auto-immune diseases and from diseases like diabetes or herpes zoster infections. But these days dry eye syndrome has become very common disease condition and among even in young age people, middle age people and as well as in teenagers and children also. In short, you can say it is found these days in about among every age group people which was earlier found only among old age people and in people suffering from auto-immune diseases due to excessive use of computers, heaters, air-conditioners.

The different symptoms of dry eye syndrome are as follow which also help you in identifying, recognizing and diagnosing this syndrome named dry eye syndrome in a person suffering from it. The various symptoms of dry eye syndrome are-

1.       The first symptom of dry eye syndrome as the name of syndrome suggests is dry eyes that eyes always feel dry and also remain dry.

2.       There is always felt some irritation in eyes like there is some dust or foreign particles in eyes are there, and sometimes irritation is felt in the form of burning in eyes, burning sensation is felt in eyes.

3.        Eye strain is felt when doing work like reading, watching television, doing some reading or typing work on computer or sewing or doing any fine print work for long hours which puts strain on eyes.

4.       Eyes become very sensitive in dry eye syndrome. They cannot tolerate light, it puts strain on eyes. Light feels very uncomfortable to eyes, that is, in short eyes are sensitive to light and can tolerate it.

5.       Headache is the most common complaint in dry eye syndrome which is produced in eyes after constant eye strain which occurs after reading, watching television, doing some fine print work like sewing, using mobiles, iPods for long hours without taking any break in between.

 

6.       Blurred vision, difficulty in seeing, eye sight get decreased and weakened. Things which are clearly seen with eyes earlier are now difficult to see; those things now seem blurred when seen with eyes.

7.       Pain felt in eyes, itching is felt in eyes. Person suffering from dry eye syndrome usually complaints that there is always felt some itching in eyes and they need to rub their eyes when itching sensation occurs in eyes.

8.       Red eyes and there is always felt some tiredness in eyes, eyes always feel tired, especially after doing some fine print work like sewing, reading, watching television, using computers, mobiles and laptops for long hours without taking any break in between.

9.       Along with headache, neck ache is also complained after constant eye strain.

10.   Various laboratory tests which helps in identifying and diagnosing dry eye syndrome are-
    a)      Schirmer’s tear test. 
    b)      Tear break up time test also known as TBUT test.
    c)       Dye test.
