6 Right ways of Consuming Milk

Everybody knows consuming milk is good for health. It supplies you with minerals like calcium and vitamins like vitamin D. But, that doesn’t mean consume it with anything. Milk can be consumed with certain foods, not with every food. For example, you can’t consume milk with citrus fruits. But, you can consume them with banana, mango and papaya. Consuming milk right way is very important to have its full benefits. Lets have a look at 6 right ways to consume milk.

These 6 right ways of consuming milk will save you from certain diseases. By following them, you will never have stomach ache, phlegm and indigestion problems from consumption of milk. Here comes,

6 Right ways of consuming milk-

1) Always consume warm milk, not cold-

Right way to consume milk is to consume it warm. Warm milk is digested easily as it supplies heat energy required during its catabolism. Whereas cold milk does not supply heat energy. On opposite, it lowers stomach temperature. That increases work load of digestive system of raising temperature of stomach to digest milk. In mean time, warm milk gets digested, cold milk is just raising temperature. That is why cold milk is digested very late. That late digestion of cold milk cause indigestion.

2) Add turmeric and ginger to milk-

Sometimes people say that they do not want to have milk in morning. As it causes heaviness, so one can’t eat breakfast, have to skip breakfast. Skipping breakfast is not good thing. To have your breakfast at time, you need to do 3 things-
  • First of all have a gap of atleast 1 hour between morning milk and breakfast. Second thing, never consume morning milk without morning walk that will cause heaviness. 
  • 3rd most important thing is add ginger or turmeric to milk while boiling it to drink warm milk. This ginger flavoured or turmeric flavoured milk not cause heaviness or phlegm in throat. But lactose intolerant people should drink only 2-3 spoon of ginger flavoured milk.

3) Never consume milk with raw vegetables or fruits-

Next, right way to consume milk is never consume it with citrus fruits. That will cause indigestion. Never consume raw vegetables or sprouts or preserved foods with milk. That won’t gets digested and will also make digestion of milk difficult too.

4) Never consume milk with pungent food ingredients-

Fourth right way to consume milk is never add garlic to milk to flavour it. Never consume onion or pepper with milk. These pungent food items consumed with milk cause indigestion.

5) Never consume milk before or immediately after food-

As said above in point 2, never consume milk immediately after food consumption. Right way to consume milk is that there should be gap of 1 hour between milk and food. Whether you are going to consume breakfast, lunch or dinner or juice, there should be gap of one hour between them and milk consumption. If you will consume any of the above without any gap from milk that will overload stomach. That overload will cause indigestion, stomach ache and diarrhoea.

6) Raise nutrition level of milk by adding sweet fruits and nuts-

You can raise nutrition level of milk by adding sweet fruits to it to make shake. Those fruits are for example-
  • Mango 
  • Papaya 
  • Banana 
But, you can’t consume citrus fruits with milk or can’t add them to milk. That is big no from ingredient point of view. You can also raise nutrition level of milk by adding nuts like almonds to it. You can rise nutrition of milk made sweet dish by adding nuts to them.

Points to be taken care of-

But, consume only one glass of 200 ml milk at one time. Do not consume 400 ml at one time. You need to break that 400 ml amount into 2 separate 200 ml glass, one in morning and one before evening. Yes never consume milk in evening or at night. That will overload stomach in evening and at night. That will result in indigestion.

If it is solid sweet dishes, then consume 1-2 pieces only. If it is semi liquid sweet dish, for example, kheer; then consume only a small bowel (katori). If it is fruit shake made with milk, then  consume only 200 ml of that.
