Monsoon season is house of diseases. The reason being appropriate moisture of balance and warmth. This appropriate balance let’s development of disease causing micro-organisms to flourish. They are transmitted to humans through infected water and food. They are also transmitted to human blood through bite of disease causing vectors, like mosquitoes. Chikungunya, diarrhoea, cholera are diseases that affect people during monsoon season. Hepatitis A, Leptospirosis and influenza also affect people during monsoon. Like that there are around total 8 diseases that affect people during monsoon. Lets have a look on all of them in detail.

Diseases that may affect you during monsoon season are many. But, some specific diseases are more prevalent, which are given below. Everyone of them have their own symptoms. But, one thing is common between them. That is, all of them are caused due to unhygienic environment, contaminated water and food. Here,

1) Chikungunya-

Chikungunya is one of those diseases that affect people during monsoon season. How people are affected by it? They are affected through bite of mosquitoes named aedes albopictus. This mosquito is flourished in stagnant water. Stagnant water is found everywhere in monsoon season. That is reason for disease being common in monsoon.

Symptoms-

  • Pain in joints of body,
  • Fever
  • Does not want to eat anything
  • Tired feeling in whole body.

2) Diarrhoea-

Diarrhoea affect people very commonly in monsoon season. How people get it during monsoon season? People get it due to consumption of unhygienic and contaminated foods and water. That kind of food and water contain disease causing factors, micro-organisms. How many types of diarrhoea people have during monsoon season? It is of two types- acute and chronic.

Symptoms-

  • Going to watery stools very often.
  • Dehydration in body.
  • Nothing gets digested.
  • Weak, tired body.

3) Cholera-

Cholera also affect people during monsoon season. How it affect? People get this due to consumption of contaminated food and water. Contaminated food and water is found, where there is poor hygiene and sanitation.

Symptoms-

  • Watery stools very often.
  • Dehydration.
  • Tired weak body.

4) Stomach infections-

Stomach infections are also very common during monsoon season. If you are going to put unhygienic contaminated food and water in stomach, then it will infect stomach lining.

Symptoms-

  • Vomiting.
  • Going to watery stools very often.
  • Pain in stomach.
  • Gastroenteritis.
  • Dehydration.
  • Tired body.
Only way to prevent stomach infections is to consume hygienically cooked home food.

5) Influenza-

Influenza is also known with name of cold and flu. Common cold is found almost in excess. Every fourth person suffers from it during monsoon season. The reason for that is, it spreads very fastly through air. Who cause it? Airborne virus found in air cause it. Which part of body it commonly affects? It affects upper respiratory tract.

Symptoms-

  • Sometimes patient have running nose or coryza.
  • Sometimes patient have dry cough with stuffy expectoration.
  • Pain in body, tiredness.
  • Decreased immunity felt in throat.
  • Fever
  • Decreased immunity.

6) Leptospirosis-

It is one of the monsoon diseases. It is also known with name of Weil’s syndrome. How it is caused? It is caused by foot drenched in dirty water. It can also be caused by coming in contact with waste matter during monsoon. During monsoon, they are source house of disease causing micro-organisms. Therefore coming in contact with them is invitation to this disease.

Symptoms-

  • Infection of incised wound or bruise on body with dirty water of monsoon. This cause inflammation of that wound or joint.
  • Shivering.
  • Pain in muscles of body.
  • Headache.
  • Fever.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Tired feeling in body.
  • Dehydration.

7) Hepatitis A-

It is water borne disease, which spreads very fastly. It is caused by Hepatitis A virus. This virus is found in contaminated drinking water or food. Food is contaminated through flies. Flies carry this virus and transmit to food and water on which they sit. Whoever consume that contaminated water get infected with this virus and result is Hepatitis A.

Symptoms-

  • Inflammation of liver caused by Hepatitis A virus.
  • Yellow colour of skin, conjunctiva of eyes, pale hands and soles due to jaundice.
  • Pain in stomach.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Nausea, diarrhoea.
  • Tiredness in whole body.
  • Fever.

Prevention-

This disease spreads through bad hygiene. Therefore you need to practice good hygiene. Wash your hands frequently. Hepatitis vaccine is also available in hospitals to prevent it. So, get immunize with that.

8) Gastroenteritis-

It is also known with name of food poisoning. This occurs most commonly during monsoon. The reason being contaminated water and food eaten from outside.

Symptoms-

  • Cramps felt in stomach.
  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Because of them dehydration occur in body. 
  • Dehydration leaves body tired all time.
  • Fever, loss of appetite, weak digestion.
  • Decreased immunity. 

Prevention-

Only way to prevent this disease is avoid eating unwashed road side salad and food.
