10 Health Tips to follow to Reduce Varicose Veins

Varicose veins cases are also increasing day by day. Varicose veins are enlarged, swollen and inflamed, blue colour veins that become visible underneath skin, in affected area. The people who are most commonly affected by this problem are, those whose valves that prevent back flow of blood are damaged. They are those, who have to stand for long hours. But, standing is not always the reason. There are other reasons for damage to valves of varicose veins. Exercise is one of the health tip that you need to follow to reduce varicose veins. Dietary changes is next health tip. Like that there are around 10 Health tips that you need to follow to reduce varicose veins. Lets discuss each of them in detail.

Causative reasons, because of which varicose veins develop-

1) Have to keep standing for long hours-
Due to gravity, most of blood in veins tend to go downwards. That puts strong pressure on valves, of veins that prevents backward flow of blood and pooling there.

  • When this pressure is put on valves daily, in standing job, with time valves loose their efficiency and patency and start damaging.
  • As a result, due to no stoppage by valves, the blood start pooling in veins area, below valves. Due to pooling of blood in veins beyond their capacity, make them enlarged and swollen.
  • That result in varicose veins, clearly visible as blue coloured veins, underneath the skin.

2) Pregnancy-
Gravid uterus of pregnant woman puts pressure on major veins. Due to which, blood circulation to branching veins become slow, causing pooling of blood in branching veins. That result in varicose veins in that area, where the blood pools.

  • In pregnancy, usually the affected area is legs, where this pooling occurs. When delivery occurs, the woman is relived of varicose veins.
  • That occurs because of return of gravid uterus to normal size that was causing obstruction in blood flow, when woman was pregnant.

3) Menopause-
Reduction in hormones during menopause, starts old age changes in valves of veins. Due to which, valves become weak and do not remain as effective in stopping blood flow, as they were earlier. That result in appearance of varicose veins in menopausal woman.

4) Old age-
With old age, wear and tear of all body tissues occurs, including valves of veins. With old age, aging of valves of veins occurs and their patency and efficiency to work properly decreases, resulting in varicose veins.

5) High blood pressure-
It puts strong pressure on valves of veins, beyond their capacity. Due to which, small valves are not able to stop backward flow of blood, resulting in varicose veins.

6) Excess body weight-
It puts compressive pressure on veins from outside. That further puts pressure on valves. Excess body weight also impedes blood flow. That decrease speed of blood circulation, causing pooling of blood in veins. That pooling result in enlargement of veins beyond capacity, causing varicose veins.

10 Health tips to follow to reduce varicose veins-

1) Exercise-

It improves blood circulation, preventing pooling of blood in veins of people, who have to stand or sit for long hours.
  • Therefore, people who have to stand or sit for long hours, should do it daily, in morning to improve their blood circulation.
  • Better blood circulation prevents, pooling of blood in one place. That prevents excessive pressure on valves of veins that occurs from prolonged sitting or standing, which cause damage to valve.

2) Drink more water-

Dehydration also decreases blood pressure. It also make body to conserve more water, which sometimes becomes cause of swelling in tissues. Swelling puts squeezing pressure on veins, also squeezing valves inside veins.
  • That squeezing pressure impedes blood circulation, and cause pooling of blood in one area, causing varicose veins. Therefore, to avoid or to reduce varicose veins drink more water.
  • When body is hydrated fully, it stops conserving water. Water conservation by body cause swelling and whole chain of process, causing varicose veins mentioned in this point. Therefore, drink more water and juices that hydrates body.

3) Keep legs elevated on pillow-

Do it, if you have to sit for long hours, which causes pooling of blood in ankles, causing varicose veins there.
  • Therefore, to reduce varicose veins, keeps legs elevated, by keeping feet on a pillow, kept on a table. Do that also while sleeping, keeping pillow below feet on bed.

4) Walk around after break of 30 minutes, if have to stand for long hours-

Teachers, security guards and traffic personals have to stand for long hours, at their standing job. That causes pooling of blood in legs and ankles, due to gravity.
  • That pooling cause varicose veins over there. To reduce varicose veins in that area, have a break of 5 minutes after every 30 minutes, to walk around in same area, where you are doing standing job, will change body position and also improves blood circulation.
  • Improved blood circulation prevents pooling of blood, resulting in reduction of varicose veins.

5) Compression stockings-

They are a kind of warm bandages, worn around varicose veins affected area. It gives support to varicose veins and reduce their swelling to a extent.

6) Dietary changes-

Eat more salads, which hydrates body. That prevents swelling caused by dehydration, causing varicose veins. Salads contain fibre, preventing high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
  • High blood pressure and high cholesterol levels damage blood valves, by putting extra pressure on them, causing varicose veins.
  • To reduce both high levels, eat more salad. That will not only reduce them, but also reduce varicose veins caused by them.

7) Control high blood pressure-

High blood pressure, as said above puts overload on valves of veins. Because of which, they are not able to restrict backward pooling of blood in veins.
  • Which result in varicose veins in area, below valves. Consult your doctor for medication of high blood pressure.
  • Also avoid consuming highly fatty and highly salty meal or snacks to reduce blood pressure to normal from high level.

8) Do not cross legs, while sitting-

It restricts free flow of blood, cause obstruction. That obstruction in blood circulation, cause pooling of blood in one place, weakening valves of that area.
  • Weak valves are not able to restrict pooling of blood backward, resulting in varicose veins in that area.

9) Reduce excess body weight-

Excess body weight as said above, squeezes blood veins and also their valves. That impedes blood circulation in that area, causing pooling of blood there.
  • That result in swelling of that area, caused by enlarged and swollen blood vessels. Decreasing body weight, decrease that squeezing effect and so do varicosity of veins.

10) Wear comfortable loose clothing and shoes-

Tight clothing and tight shoes obstruct blood circulation, causing pooling of blood at one place causing varicose veins there.
  • Wear loose clothes that allow free flow of blood, in arteries and veins, improving blood circulation.
  • Improved blood circulation prevents varicose veins, whereas obstructed one cause varicose veins.

So, that was all regarding 10 health tips to follow, to reduce varicose veins. But, if your varicose veins have gone to ulceration stage, then you need to consult your doctor for medical help. Your doctor will do some investigative tests, on basis of which, he will decide, whether you need surgery or not.
