Echinococcus Granulosus

By handling a dog or drinking contaminated water, humans may ingest eggs of Echinococcus Granulosus. Dogs are definitive hosts of Echinococcus Granulosus.

A hydatid cyst is typically acquired in childhood and it may after growing for some years, cause pressure symptoms. In nearly 75% of patients with hydatid disease the right lobe of the liver is invaded and contains a single cyst. 

Investigations- 

1. X-ray. 

2. Ultrasound. 

3. ELISA test.
