Giardiasis

Giardiasis is an inflammatory disease which occurs due to the infection by micro-organism named Giardia lamblia, which occurs by ingestion of cysts through contaminated or infected water.


Symptoms-

1.      Symptoms start appearing one to three weeks after the infection with Giardia lamblia micro-organism.
2.      Diarrheoa.
3.      Nausea and vomiting.
4.      Loss of appetite, abdominal pain and fatigue.
5.      Malabsorption.
6.      Weight loss in chronic cases.

Investigations-

1.      Stool test.
2.      Duodenal or jejunal fluid microscopic examination.
3.      Jejunal biopsy.
