Post Traumatic Stress Disorder



Post traumatic stress disorder is a type of anxiety disorder in which there occurs recurrent attacks of severe anxiety along with vivid flashbacks or reminiscences of the initial traumatic event.



Symptoms-


1.      Patient re-experiences the traumatic event in mind in the form of frightful or horrifying dreams or flashbacks of past traumatic event are re-experienced in mind or thoughts.

2.      Avoidance of stimuli associated with the traumatic event.

3.      Increased autonomic reactivity.

4.      Irritability.

5.      Sleeplessness.

6.      Easily get feared.

7.      In acute form of post traumatic stress disorder, there occurs onset of symptoms within six months of trauma or symptoms may last less than six months.

8.      In chronic form of post traumatic stress disorder, symptoms start appearing when more than six months have passed after trauma or injury and persists for more than six months.
