An aortic aneurysm is an abnormal dilatation of the aortic wall.
Types-
1. Non-specific aneurysms.
2. Marfanās syndrome.
3. Aortitis.
4. Thoracic aneurysms.
5. Abdominal aortic aneurysms.
1. Non-specific aneurysms- tend to run in families. The most common site for non specific aneurysm formation is the infrarenal abdominal aorta.
2. Marfanās syndrome- is caused by mutations in the fibrillin gene on chromosome 15. Symptoms of marfanās syndrome are-
Ā· Arachnodactyly.
Ā· Joint hypermobility.
Ā· Scoliosis.
Ā· Chest deformity.
Ā· High arched palate.
Ā· Dislocation of lens.
Ā· Aortic disease.
Ā· Mitral regurgitation.
3. Aortitis- conditions that cause aortitis and aneurysm formation are-
Ā· Reiterās syndrome.
Ā· Ankylosing spondylitis.
4. Thoracic aneurysms- produce chest pain. It cause aortic valve regurgitation, hemorrhage.
5. Abdominal aortic aneurysms- it affects men more than women.
