Aphakia is the absence of crystalline lens from eye. It causes high degree of hypermetropia.
Causes-
1. Congenital.
2. Surgical removal of lens.
3. Injury.
4. Posterior dislocation of lens.
Symptoms-
1. Difficulty in seeing both near as well as distance objects.
2. Cyanosis.
3. Erythropsia.
Investigations-
1. Purkinje’s image test.
2. Fundus examination.
3. Retinoscopy.
Treatment-
1. Convex lens.
2. Intraocular lens implantation.
3. Refractive corneal surgery.
