It is said that dark skin Indians are immune to vitamin D
deficiency. They cannot suffer from this vitamin D deficiency malady. How much
this is true? Or, is it misconception spread world over by some? On what basis
this myth spread?
Yes, it is true that it is myth, it is a false misconception that deficiency
of this vitamin no more affects dark skin Indians. Yes, it is a myth. It is not
true that dark skin Indians are immune to vitamin D deficiency. Dark skin Indians
are not at all immune to vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency affect them
too, if they did not eat vitamin D rich nutritious diet.
Next question, is on what basis this myth, this misconception, this
false news spread? This false news spread because North India receives good
amount of sunlight and dark skin Indians too love to sit in sunlight. But, what
this sitting too much in sunlight is to do with vitamin D deficiency? And, what
too much sunlight available in north India is to do with vitamin D deficiency?
Both,
receiving too much sunlight in north India and sitting too much in sunlight is
linked with vitamin D deficiency because sitting in sunlight helps in synthesizing
vitamin D in human body. That is, sunlight is most natural and purest way of
vitamin D synthesis for human body. But, if Indians receive too much of
sunlight in north and sitting adequately and sometimes too much in sunlight,
then why did not vitamin D synthesis occur in their human body? Why they still
remain deficient even after receiving so much sunlight exposure?
The answer to this is given there in next article- Why sitting so much in sunlight does not benefit dark skin Indians?
