Angina Pectoris


Angina pectoris is a cardiovascular disease in which there occurs pain in retrosternal region on exertion which radiates to left arm or sometimes to right arm but usually it extends to left arm.


Causes- 
                                        
1.      Angina pectoris is caused due to transient myocardial ischaemia.
2.      Atheroma.
3.      Coronary artery disease.
4.      Coronary arterial spasm.
5.      Hyperlipidaemia.
6.      Hypertension.
7.      Diabetes.

Symptoms-

1.      Retrosternal pain on exertion which occurs for more than twenty minutes. This squeezing and aching pain radiates from retrosternal region to left arm or sometimes to right arm. Very rarely it gets extend to throat, back, chin or epigastrium.
2.      Presence of aortic valve disease or peripheral vascular disease.
3.      Diabetes, thyroid disease.
4.      Obesity.

Investigations-

1.      ECG.
2.      Myocardial perfusion scanning.
3.      Echocardiography.
4.      Coronary arteriography.
5.      Coronary magnetic resonance angiography.
6.      Lipid profile test.
7.      Fasting blood sugar test.
8.      Chest x-ray test.
9.      Blood pressure monitoring.
