Haemoptysis

Haemoptysis is expectoration of blood or bloody sputum. Haemoptysis can be caused due to various reasons. It is not a disease itself but it is symptom of various different diseases. There are so many causes of haemoptysis some of which are as follow-

1. Pulmonary tuberculosis is one of the main causes of haemoptysis.



2. Bronchial carcinoma.

3. Haemoptysis can also occur in chronic bronchitis.

4. Bronchiectasis.

5. Lung abscess.

6. Pneumonia.

7. Bronchial adenoma.

8. Hemorrhagic diathesis.


Investigations-

The following investigations or tests are done to identify the cause of haemoptysis-

1. Hb test.

2. TLC, DLC test.

3. ESR test.

4. Blood group test.

5. CT, BT tests.

6. Platelet count test.

7. Urine test.

8. Sputum test.

9. Sputum culture test.

10. Chest X-ray postero-anterior view.

11. Chest X-ray lateral view.

12. CT scan of chest.

13. ECG test.

14. Bronchoscopy.
