Constipation


Constipation is a body phenomenon or a condition of body in which there occurs bowel movements less frequently than three times a week and stool is hard and difficult to pass.


Causes-

There are different diseases which can cause constipation. The main and important diseases or causes which can cause constipation are as follow-

1.      Dehydration.
2.      Acute intestinal obstruction.
3.      Acute appendicitis.
4.      Anal fissure.
5.      Decreased fiber intake in food.
6.      Side effects of some medicines.
7.      Irritable bowel syndrome.
8.      Diabetes mellitus.
9.      Haemorrhoids.
10.  Diverticulitis.
11.  Myopathic or neurologic diseases.


Investigations-

1.      TLC, DLC tests.
2.      Fasting blood glucose test.
3.      T3, TSH level tests.
4.      Serum calcium level test.
5.      Stool test.
6.      Sigmoidoscopy.
7.      Colonoscopy.
